- If I run 2 light heroes, how does the soul work?
-
Similar to equipment, there's a single soul that both heroes can pull from.
- What does hero mean in card text? For targeting, choosing, effects, etc
-
For simplicity, "target hero" and "target player" will by synonymous. For balance, damage will affect the player, but affects will affect both heroes.
Damage is dealt as if there was a single hero, so cards like Aether Spindle (red) will only deal the normal 4 damage.
For effects relating to heroes, it relates to both heroes controlled by that player. If Sleep Dart hits, both heroes will lose their abilities until the end of the next turn.
The exception to this rule is Shiyana, see below.
- How does Shiyana work?
-
You are allowed to target your other hero with her ability. She is the only effect in the format that only targets a single hero. Otherwise it would be difficult to track and completely broken within the format. Her ability DOES double the effect of your other hero if you target that hero with her effect.
- What about multi-class heroes?
-
They work as you expect, they add all of their classes to your card pool. But you must follow any deckbuilding restrictions listed on your cards.
- Deckbuilding restrictions in card text
-
Card text beats format text. If a card restricts your deckbuilding, you have to follow that restriction. "Emperor, Dracai of Aesir" requires you to only have red cards in your deck so you can only have red cards in your deck.
- Conflicting restrictions on cards
-
If you are playing with cards that have restrictions for your deckbuilding in their text, you have to follow both. If one hero says you can only have red cards, and the other says you can only have blue cards, then you cannot build a deck with them together.
- Can I use 4 weapons, 8 armor, two 2-hand weapons, etc?
-
The short answer is no. This format is designed to use the same standard slots as always. If your group wants to house-rule it, that's up to you.
- Multiplayer?
-
Duo is designed as a 1v1 format, but you can use it in other 1v1 formats like Ultimate Pitfight. Duo is effectively a deckbuilding restriction.
- Wasn't there another format that was the same thing?
-
When I came up with this originally, it was just after Aria was released. I picked the name Arena. It chosen because it is the 2v2 format in World of Warcraft, and a little nod to the recently released MTG Arena video game. Eventually, I felt it was better for the health of the fomrat to move away from that and get its own identity. When I was forced to move the website host and rebuild everything from scratch, it was a good opportunity to make this change.
- Demi-heroes?
-
You must follow the restrictions listed on the card. When you transform into a demi-hero, you transform the hero listed in the card's decbuilding restrictions. So if you want to use "Levia, Redeemed", you must be running Levia as one of your heroes and when you transform, you transform Levia.
